Kingfisher Guesthouse: a great accommodation choice in Graaff-Reinet

Founded 1786, the town Graaff-Reinet is South Africa’s fourth oldest town. Today, it is noted as having more national monuments than any other town or city in South Africa – over 220 sites. For this reason, it is a popular destination for relaxed romantic or family escapes into the Karoo countryside.

Its location also makes it a popular stop for long-distance travellers as the R61 and R63 converge in the town.

Situated in the town’s quiet Cypress Grove suburb – next to the Sundays River, is the Kingfisher Guesthouse surrounded by giant old trees that create a sense of tranquility. Many of the guests point out the charm of the place as well as the genuine hospitality they receive from the owner and her staff.

Kingfisher Guesthouse is then the perfect base to experience what Graaff-Reinet has to offer – breath-taking sunsets, day trips to the Valley of Desolation and Nieu Bethesda, game viewing at nearby parks and other interesting things to do.

A stroll or a guided tour from Kingfisher will reveal more than 50 of these historic sites and beautiful homes exuding a fine mix of Cape Dutch, Karoo and Victorian architecture.

At your request, your hosts can also arrange a sunset picnic at the Valley of Desolation on your behalf. From its impressive dolomites, you can have panoramic views of the town and the Karoo plains beyond it.

Reviews from previous Kingfisher Guesthouse guests
“It has been an enjoyable stay my family loved. It has been a center for all the movement we wanted to make. A stone throw from town. Kids enjoyed the swimming pool. Marvelous and excellent! Keep up the good friendliness and hospitality Carina, Kingfisher Lodge will be my nest stop again in future,” Voyage13354794714 wrote on their TripAdvisor page.

SonjavT also wrote; “Perfect for a quick overnight stay. Old fashion bedroom, well equipped. Just outside town, situated in a very quiet dead end road, so very tranquil and very safe. We were welcomed by many friendly dogs.”

“We had such a wonderful stay at Kingfisher Lodge, Carina was an excellent host so welcoming, friendly and went out of her way for a BDay request. The breakfast was scrumptious. Property clean and staff friendly. Would highly recommend Kingfisher Lodge,” adds 347lynne.
