During lockdown Kathleen de Bruyn was inspired to research the science of coffee. From planting and growing of coffee trees, roasting and brewing, she discovered that each phase has a significant impact on the taste of coffee. This soon became a passion, and The Roaster’s Mug was born.
Kathleen roasts her beans from home in Dundee, KZN. The Roaster’s Mug is a small batch coffee roastery. It has become so successful that it was nominated as one of the best new roasteries in 2021, by The Coffee Magazine.
Their mission is to keep their passion for the craft coffee as they are dedicated to producing quality roasting, not necessarily quantity. They always try to keep their coffee as fresh as possible for their customers and that is why they roast on demand. The difference between fresh produce compared to coffee that has been sitting on the shelves for months is noticeable.
The Roaster’s Mug offers a number of different roasts, the flavours and aromas of which will take you on a coffee journey you could never have imagined.

Coffee Roasts from The Roaster’s Mug
The Roaster’s Mug offers four different single origin coffees, as well as two blends. They also have a decaf from Colombia.
Brazilian coffee – is a familiar taste and is great for an everyday coffee.
Colombia coffee – has a very strong body, cacao undertone, and a creamy after taste.
Malawian coffee – has a natural sweetness to it with a great body. This is great for an espresso too.
Nicaraguan – is nutty, mild and sweet.
Their Espresso Blend is a perfect blend of their single origin beans and which brings out a great taste for milk-based drinks.
Dundee Blend is their special blend named after the town of Dundee.
Colombia CO2 decaf is treated to remove the caffeine from the beans, and doesn’t leave the unpleasant taste that usually goes with decaf coffee.
Their coffee can be found at restaurants, shops, local markets and can be ordered on line.
