The Garden Route Birds of Prey Centre was established in 2018 by falconers Bertus and Lizette Beukes, and is located in the Garden Route Botanical Garden in George.
This is a great family friendly attraction. Avid birders, tourists and young children with inquiring minds will find a visit to the centre extremely educational and interesting.
The centre is wheel chair accessible and a guided tour will introduce you to approximately nineteen different raptors, including falcons, eagles and owls.
They have daily where our tour guides take you around the park and educate the public on the birds of prey. These tours run on an hourly basis between 9am – 3pm.

Live Shows
The centre has regular live shows where master falconers Bertus and Lizette will give you an exciting live flight demonstration and where you can also enjoy an interactive experience and learn about South Africa’s indigenous birds of prey.
Rehabilitation
The aim of the centre is to educate the public and particularly the youth by raising awareness around birds of prey and the importance of conserving them and also to raise awareness of the human-wildlife conflict that occurs through the world.
They are active and available 24/7 to rescue birds of prey that have been injured by vehicles, traps, fences, powerlines, poison and those that have been illegally removed from nesting sites.
The rehabilitation process incorporates veterinary treatment, correct dietary provisions and adequate enclosures.
The main aim is to restore lost skills and to regain maximum self-sufficiency in the birds, and to release them once they are healthy enough.
How Can You Help?
The Garden Route Birds of Prey and Rehabilitation Centre is a registered Non-Profit Organisation (NPO), and relies heavily on donations and sponsors. All donations go directly towards the conservation, education rehabilitation and research work that is carried out with the birds of prey.
Members of the public can also sponsor a bird. This entails both financial and emotional involvement with the life, care and wellbeing of the bird you sponsor. In return you will receive regular updates and photos of the progress of your sponsored bird.
The Garden Route Birds of Prey Centre is a great place for school groups, business groups and the general public to benefit and enjoy an interactive and learning experience with birds of prey.
