Admiralty Beach House sets the bar for luxury accommodation in PE
Upmarket Summerstrand has always been my favourite suburb in Port Elizabeth, so I was naturally excited when I recently had the opportunity to stay overnight at one of its finest guesthouses – Admiralty Beach House.
Admiralty Beach House is a four star luxury guesthouse owned by the husband and wife team, Alan and Jo Byram. Situated in the lower part of Admiralty Way, the guesthouse is walking distance from Pollock Beach and a stone’s throw from the Humewood Golf Course – it’s the perfect base from which to explore the City and its attractions.
Upon my arrival, I was welcomed by Jo, whose warm and friendly character set the tone for my entire stay. She later took me on a quick tour of the beach house.
The interior décor immediately caught my eye. The entire guesthouse comprises of light colours, which radiate the tranquillity of a beach house. It was also apparent that the owners had paid attention to the finest details.
We took a tour through the large, open lounge area where guests can relax as well as the large dining area that looks out over a lovely lush garden and sparkling pool. Here, I was shown a choice of curios and keepsakes, personally selected from around the country by Jo, which are available for guests to purchase. Finally, I was shown the beautiful and spacious family suite, which also overlooks the pool area.
Jo then escorted me to my beautifully appointed room, complete with a private outside area; modern en-suite with shower and bath. Contemporary, floral wallpaper adorns the walls while lavender is placed artistically on the luxurious bath towels, and a beautiful white orchid on the dressing table – a nice touch.
They really thought of everything you could possibly need – DSTV, free Wi-Fi, coffee and tea making facilities, business desk, cookies, a well-stocked honesty bar fridge, bottle of red wine, cutlery, even an iron and ironing board.
The en-suite is just as well-finished off with personalised shower caps, ear buds, cotton wool, bath salts, shampoo, hand and body lotion and aroma oil burning candles.
After a great night’s rest, I was looking forward to breakfast the next morning and followed the scent of freshly brewed coffee, (roasted personally by the owners' son-in-law, Arrow Coffee Company), all the way to the dining area where a lavish buffet breakfast, as well as a menu for the cooked choice awaited me.
The combination of soft music and a cosy fire place filled the crisp autumn morning. I ordered French toast with syrup and crispy bacon for my hot meal and it was mouth-watering!
Unfortunately, I had to leave that same morning. For me, Admiralty sets the bar for luxury accommodation in PE and I would highly recommend them to anyone wanting a change of scenery.
