Designed for the experience
A memorable stay is the benchmark for everything at Ashbourne Manor
With all the long weekends in April this year, I recently had the opportunity to break away to Ashbourne Manor in Port Elizabeth. Situated in the beautiful beachfront suburb of Summerstrand, this boutique guesthouse offers a superior experience whether you are on holiday or a business trip.
I arrived just after three o’clock on a hot summer’s day and was welcomed with open arms at the front door of this mansion. My bags were quickly taken and I was escorted to my room and later given a tour of the guesthouse.
The elegant foyer, with its imperial staircase, gives you a castle-like feeling. With fine touches, like fresh flowers throughout the guesthouse, Ashbourne Manor offers four extra-luxury bedrooms and three great comfort bedrooms.
My room, being one of the extra-luxury bedrooms, was modern yet comfortable. It overlooked a beautiful stone garden and front lawn stretching all the way to Admiralty Way.
The room was equipped with an en-suite bathroom, under-floor heating, heated towel rails, air-conditioning, a flat-screen television with DSTV, as well as coffee making facilities.
I found the great comfort rooms slightly less spacious, but they still maintain the level of luxury that you find throughout the guesthouse. These rooms are equipped with a fridge, microwave and custom-made cabinets to make for a perfect non-fussy, self-catering stay.
After I settled in, I jumped into my swimsuit and headed downstairs for a dip in their crystal clear pool, where I spent the next few hours sunbathing.
Since Ashbourne Manor is situated just a short drive from many of the City’s top restaurants and its beachfront’s tourist attractions, I arranged to meet a friend of mine for supper at one of these fine establishments.
For anyone too tired to venture out, dinner can be provided by arrangement. Children are also accommodated by prior arrangement only.
With a full tummy and after a long hot bath, I turned in for what turned out to be a great night’s rest.
I woke up early and refreshed the next morning. After a hearty breakfast of muesli, yogurt, and a full English breakfast complete with bacon, eggs, pork sausages and toast, I was ready for whatever adventures the day brought forth.
I thoroughly enjoyed my short visit to Ashbourne Manor and I can highly recommend them for both leisure and business trips. Their spacious entertainment area can be easily configured for conferences or intimate get-togethers and can seat up to 40 persons, cinema style.
