Umzimkulu River Lodge (Underberg - KwaZulu-Natal)
Umzimkulu River Lodge offers tranquillity in a beautiful setting

A need for peace and tranquillity
Escape from the craziness of messaging systems, social media, terrible news and interruptive email is essential. I am always on the lookout for a place that offers peace and tranquillity and where I can switch off my electronic devices, breathe fresh air and relax.
To my mind there are few better places than the unspoilt Southern Drakensberg and Umzimkulu River Lodge would be one of the first places I would choose to stay.
This amazing guest house lies on the banks of the beautiful Umzimkhulu River not far from Underberg. The area is simply beautiful. Rolling hills, dense groves of trees and lovingly cared for gardens.
In summer the climate is mild to warm and in winter you can expect snow. No matter the season, the air is always fresh and the surroundings beautiful.
The Lodge offers a variety of accommodation from a honeymoon suite to pet friendly cottages to a giant cabin that can sleep 12 people. Each unit is private with its own piece of river frontage.
The units are extremely comfortable and come with fireplaces for winter and verandas for summer. The décor is farm style and the linen crisp and fresh and bathrooms spotless.
Each unit is fully equipped for self-catering but the lodge offers buffet breakfasts every day and dinner may be ordered by prior arrangement. These meals are served at the lodge in the main dining room or on the veranda overlooking the river.
Umzimkulu River Lodge has plenty to offer
Once settled in, it is time to explore. Umzimkulu River Lodge has 2.5 km of river frontage that includes slow moving, broad expanses of water to rushing rapids and it is here that you will most to do in summer.
Fly fishing, swimming, tubing, boating and picnics are some of the major summer attractions. Hiking, biking and birdwatching are non-seasonal as are visits to the nearby Sani Pass.
Umzimkulu River Lodge is very much a family destination and, apart from all the wonderful natural pursuits, there is also a jungle gym, tree house, swings, sandpit, trampoline, mini golf and volleyball. In bad weather there is a kids TV lounge with plenty of games.
Spend the afternoon relaxing around the pool or pub and the only electronic device you’re likely to use is the DSTV in the adult lounge to show your support for your favourite sports team.
