The Lofts Boutique Hotel (Knysna - Garden Route)
The Lofts re-opens
One of Knysna’s top hotels now even better and ready to welcome you
The Lofts Boutique Hotel, situated in Thesen Harbour Town in Knysna, was, for many years, one of my favourite places to stay. The island is one of the most tranquil holiday locations on our coastline and The Lofts epitomised that tranquility.
Sadly, in May of 2015, this wonderful hotel was damaged by fire along with the world famous île de païn bakery. Shortly after the fire, the management of the hotel released a statement that they would be rebuilding an even better version of this wonderful boutique establishment.
Each time I visited Knysna after the fire, I made it a point to stop by the site of The Lofts to check on the reconstruction progress. So, it was with great happiness that I learnt that The Lofts Boutique Hotel reopened on 1 November.
Carla Meyer, the manager at The Lofts Boutique Hotel says, “This year has been the start of new things for us. We have worked, trained and prepped very hard for our reopening on 1 November. We are very proud of our wonderful team, which has been working extremely hard and who are all waiting to serve our guests.”
This is not the first time that this building has been reconstructed. Originally built in 1922 as a boatshed, this wood structure was creatively converted into the original Lofts Boutique Hotel when Thesen Harbour Town was developed.
Some of the original Lofts design features remain and much has been done to maintain the sense of serenity that the older building exuded.
“Tower 2 is one of the three original Exclusive Lagoon Suites. This spacious open plan room has big sliding doors that let in the fresh lagoon air. The room also has a his-and-hers shower and basins, a bath, separate toilet, a coffee station and a TV with select DSTV channels - not that you'd want to watch it with the beautiful view that surrounds you,” describes Carla.
She adds; “Tower 6 is one of the new Exclusive Lagoon Suites. This large room is equipped with a bath, shower, walk-in closet, a TV with select DSTV channels, a coffee station and a large sliding door opening onto a balcony with the most beautiful views over the Knysna lagoon.”
Another new addition is The Lofts Atrium, of which Carla says, “We are open daily to our guests - the Knysna locals and visitors, from 9:00 to 20:00. Here, you can enjoy a cup of coffee, some delicious locally sourced snacks, cocktails and drinks.”
I remember each room at The Lofts being attractively and overwhelmingly comfortably furnished. Carla says that the same luxurious feel and style has been continued in the new rooms.
“Our décor and atmosphere is relaxed, comfortable, tranquil and extremely stylish - exactly what we were aiming for!”
With this year almost over, I now have something to look forward to in 2017 – a visit to The Lofts Boutique Hotel.
