Romonza Boat Trip (Mossel Bay - Western Cape)

Sail away
An unforgettable experience with Romonza’s boat trips

The wind is in your hair, the rippling water is sparkeling, you fill your lungs with a deep breath of ocean air, whilst taking in the beauty of the marine life around you. Sounds perfect, doesn’t it? This is exactly what you can expect when you go on one of Romonza’s boat trips in Mossel Bay on the beautiful Garden Route.

I’ve had the privilege of experiencing their boat trips not once or twice, but four times, and I’m heading back for a trip with the family in 2016. Never has my experience been the same, and this is why I’ll never tire of admiring the wondrous blue ocean from the deck of their boat.

The Romonza is run by three generations of the Klapwijk family and they’ve been offering their trips from the Mossel Bay harbour for more than 38 years. In this industry, experience and knowledge is what sets you apart – this is probably why they are known for the best marine tours in the area.

One of the trips that I enjoyed was the Seal Island trip; this is offered throughout the year. The trip lasts for one hour and allows you to have a closer look and take some amazing photographs of about 4000 Cape Fur Seals that reside on Seal Island, whilst being informed of the need-to-know facts.

But if you thought that the Seal Island trip is only about seals, you are in for a surprise. Your host will point out some interesting historical sites along the way. Enjoying the view of the entire Mossel Bay, its long curving coastline and the majestic Outeniqua Mountain range to the North and the never-ending deep blue Indian Ocean to the South - this trip is definitely an experience you won’t forget.

Romonza also offers Eco Ocean Safaris throughout the year and Boat Based Whale Watching trips from July to October; here a qualified whale guide is on board while you observe the largest mammals on earth as well as dolphins, seals, sharks and various marine birds.

Another favourite of mine is their Sunset Cruise that is on offer from November to April. The trip lasts for about two hours and you can bring a picnic basket and make use of their cash bar while the boat cruises past the Point, Seal Island, Hartenbos, Diaz Beach, De Bakke and the beautiful Santo’s Beach.
