Rustic, countryside accommodation and wedding venue at De Skaap
by liesl silverman
Set within the picturesque landscape of rolling farmlands and green meadows dotted with white lambs, geese and sheep is the De Skaap accommodation and events venue.
Situated on a working sheep and tomato farm, guests can put their wellies on and enjoy the tranquillity of farm life.
De Skaap, located on Sandfontein Farm in Napier, offers hiking trails, where guests can spot Fynbos and take in the beautiful views of the Overberg. There are also mountain bike trails for advanced riders and beginners.
Guests can enjoy bird-watching, canoeing on the farm dam or visit one of the nearby wine farms, such as the Black Oyster, First Sighting, Raka and Strandveld Vineyards.
The De Skaap events venue is perfect for weddings, birthdays and conferences and can cater for up to 180 people. The venue offers a large hall with a beautiful green lawn overlooking the farm dam and a large shaded terrace, with ample space for all your guests.
Wedding ceremonies can be held in the forest area and afterwards guests will be given appetisers and pre-drinks on the terrace or in the marquee.
There is also a circular Boma area, where guests can spend their evening with a glass of wine, chatting around a warm fire.
The accommodation offers five self-catering units consisting of three houses and two cottages.
The Jan Frederik Huis is very spacious with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, an open plan kitchen, living room and dining room. The house sleeps six people and has a large patio with splendid views.
The other two houses - the Kraanvoel Huis and the Kolgans Huis offer two bedrooms, two bathrooms and sleep four to six people. Both of these houses have a fully-equipped kitchen and indoor fireplaces.
The two cottages known as Blouryer and Lepelaar sleep two people each and consist of one bedroom, kitchenette and an en-suite bathroom.
For evenings, when guests don’t feel like cooking, the nearest town, Napier, is only a five-minute drive away. Here you will find a selection of restaurants, friendly pubs and the Napier Brewery.
If you want an escape from the city and fancy a bit of country living, then pack your wellies and hiking boots and head down to De Skaap.
